Vintage
Chinese sewing basket,1920-30's era.
Has original ring and tassel.  No coins.
Included are colorful floss of many colors, several wooden spools and  thimbles.
Measures about 7" and 2.25" tall.
Shabby chic decor or use as jewelry box, great addition to any home.
Chinese sewing basket from circa 1900s. These lidded baskets were woven from cane, rushes, willow or bamboo and decorated with colorful glass bangles and beads, coins and silk tassels. Originally the baskets were used in China to hold wedding gifts for Chinese brides. The baskets were imported to the United States beginning in the 1880s and became popular containers for sewing and other household accessories until the 1930s. This large basket would have been used to hold yarn, ribbon, or thread and large sewing supplies like scissors, needle books and pin cushions.
