Description
Super nice early and primitive woven basket. I think it may have been hand-woven, but I do not know basket-making history or technique for sure. I think the rare aspect of this basket is that the side walls of the basket are hollow, with about an inch of space in the basket wall (beginning at the rim of the basket), then the space between the woven sides tapers to no space at the base or pedestal of the basket. Hope this is clear. My wife demonstrates the wall thickness at the rim of the basket in the one photo. This basket is in very nice used condition. There is some light sign of residue on the surface of the basket here and there as you can probably see in the photos, and this is undoubtedly due to a garage or shed storage over time as well as use of the basket in gathering. I'd guess this to be 1940s approximately just based on style and craftsmanship. The height of the basket, top of handle to base is 11". The width of the basket at its widest point is 11.5". The height of the basket from the base to the top of the basket rim is 4". And, as I indicated the widest hollow space in the basket wall is about ONE inch. This beautiful, solid basket is being sold as is, so PLEASE do review photos and always ask questions before bidding.
