    Description

The design and workmanship displayed in this antique compact that was made in Austria shouldn't be a surprise given that it's signed
    (gst)
in a cartouche. That would be Georg Stoeger who was also associated with W
iener Werkstätte. The body of the compact is .935 Sterling and it's beautifully accented with engravings and niello inlays. It's a fair assumption that the compact was custom-made for the client whose initials were spelled out in marcasite on the lid. Speaking of the lid, please note that the edges are meticulously reeded. The black material on the lid looks like enamel but it actually appears to be hard plastic that aesthetically works perfectly.
Unfortunately, the plastic is chipped just below the hinge plus a small sliver at "1 o'clock." The larger flake is .75 inches long. Indoors, in indirect light, both chips practically disappear but are quite obvious in bright light. There are also a few minor abrasions on the lid that are almost imperceptible. Scratches on the underside are heavier and more numerous but also barely visible indoors. There are two other minor flaws. Namely, the latch on the lid doesn't hold and there's a small chip on the beveled glass mirror.
Width of the compact is 2-3/8 inches. Weight is 3.4 ounces.
Overall condition is just as described and buyer satisfaction is backed with a money-back policy that includes return postage if the item has been misrepresented in any way.
