    Description

OFFERED ... a 1920's (possibly earlier) rouge compact or pot that carries the incised trademark crest, "Leigh ... Probus Paratus," of Leigh, Chemist, Inc., in New York City.  The compact, sometimes referred to as a rouge pot, is a small brass round with the incised crest on the top and an engine-turned design on the bottom.  The hinged lid works very well, and the closure snaps securely and is easy to open.  The interior is clean with the exception of a small amount of rouge residue.  The compact measures 1 1/4" in diameter; 1/2" in height.  It is in very good early vintage condition and has aged with a nice golden brass patina.
FYI:  Application for trademark was filed
by Leigh, Chemist, Inc. (a corporation located in New York City, New York, borough of Manhattan, doing business at 501 Fifth Avenue)
on August 18, 1924 and was subsequently registered on January 13, 1925.  Research and legal documents indicate the trademark was continuously used in the business since February 2, 1912.  The trademark was later renewed on January 13, 1945, to Shulton, Inc., a corporation of New Jersey.
