Pears' Soap AdvertisementPage from Harper's Magazine
Original - Circa 1906
_______________________________________
Sharp black and white graphic from Harper's Magazine, probably circa 1906, see additional information about date below. Smooth paper that is light ivory in color (nice ivory, my photo is off a bit in color) and is entire page taken from magazine, not a reproduction. Page size is 6.5 x 9.5" and printed graphic size is 5.0 x 8.25.
There are 4 staple holes along right side of page, assuming magazine was staple-bound, top staple hole has closed tear which extends to within quarter-inch of graphic, if matted and framed tear would just about disappear when adhered to heavier backing or graphic could be trimmed eliminating both staple areas. Bottom staple hole has 1/2" long tear which has torn to edge of page and towards graphic. Edges of the page are slightly worn, tips okay. Page is clean, but in much of the non-printed areas it does have light show-through of printing on back of page. The graphic also has faint show-through of printing when tilted.
Back of page has much description of a cruise you could purchase on Cunard Steamship along with 3 small, hazy black and white photos; this page is a continuation of a preceding page as the first sentence on page is ending of previous pate text.
For dating this Pears' advertisement I have used the itinerary dates for the cruises; first cruise date is Nov. 23, 1907 followed by 3 cruise dates in early 1908, so am assuming magazine page was printed circa 1906.
