    Description

This 1920’s (?) compact is a charming oval-shaped dance compact. Made by the well-known D.F. Briggs Co of Attleboro, Mass., it contains the places for powder, rouge, with and empty flip-up lipstick and mirror. Just add powder, rouge and lipstick, then it and you are ready to go dancing!
The exterior of the compact has lovely machine turned designs alternating between silver and gold tones. It has a hinged, lift top with a bezel set pastel green guilloche enamel panel featuring a hand painted gold bow and lavender flowers. Striking repoussé metalwork surrounds the compact’s side.
The exterior front and side of the compact and the metal interior are in excellent condition. The mirror is somewhat spotted due to age. There is evidence of a very tiny ding on the back, and some faint color changes to the metal on the sides and back, as seen in the photos. The compact opens and closes well and the clasp snaps shut securely. Overall, its condition is excellent for being about 100 years old. It measures 2 ¾” inches wide and 2 3/8” inches tall. The chain appears to be original.
