    Description

Antique Miniature Coffin Sewing And Emboidery Box, Sewing Casket. Stamped USHA School of Sewing And Embroidery this unusual box originally came from India. Circa 1930 it is all wood and glass with a hand embroidered front and shaped like a coffin. Since they don’t do burials like western countries, this unusual shape wasn’t considered macabre there. Stamped USHA sewing and embroidery school, this was a school designed to bring trade to young girls and girls in non urban areas. The school was formed by the company that manufactured USHA sewing machines since the late 1800’s in India. The box is signed by the embroidery artist on the bottom as well. Open the box and you will find several old wood spools as well as threads and antique instruments used for embroidery. Box is paper lined. Measures 16” by 6.5” by 3” tall. It’s really a lovely and unusual antique sewing box. See photos.
