THIS IS AN ANTIQUE COMPACT. IT IS MARKED EMBOSSED " ELGIN AMERICAN ". IT HAS A BEAUTIFUL EMBROIDERED ROSE PATTERN ON THE PADDED CLOTH TOP. THE BOTOM IS PAINTED WHITE TO LOOK LIKE ENAMEL. SOME OF THIS PAINT IS MISSING. WHEN OPENED UP THE MIRROR IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE. ON THE OTHER SIDE, INSIDE, ARE TWO COMPARTMENTS THAT HAVE LIDS THE LARGER ONE IS SPRING OPEN SO THAT WHEN YOU PUSH THE LEVER IT POPS OPEN TO REVIEL THE POWDER. THE SMALLER ONE SNAPS OPEN AND SHUT AND HAS ROUGE.ALL THE LATCHES AND LEVERS ON THIS BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE COMPACT WORK PERFECTLY.  THIS COMPACT MEASURES 2 1/2 INCHES SQUARE CLOSED. IT DOES HAVE CUT CORNERS SO THAT IT ACTUALLY HAS 8 SIDES. IT IS ONLY 5/16 INCHES THICK. WHAT A GREAT ADDITION TO ANY VANITY COLLECTION!!! PLEASE SEE PICTURES AND ASK QUESTIONS FOR DETAILS!
