This ultra pure activated charcoal is made exclusively by Appalachian Emporium and is among some of the purest on the market due to our technique and variety. First a word about the variety of hardwood used. We use only the finest grained Chinkapin Oak Hardwood. We don't use seconds such as old shipping pallets and crates as others most often do, and we do not mix species of wood. Be assured when you purchase our exclusive activated charcoal that you are receiving some of the purest carbon on the market. Most companies use a process where acids are used to prepare their charcoal. At best you will be getting an inferior product which will most likely have some chemical residues. At Appalachian Emporium we use a 100% organic process, replacing the acids with a special steam bath. This produces a pure and virtually tasteless, odorless product. Virtually neutral in pH it is perfect for adsorption of impurities from the terrarium. Works great for drainage and can be mixed 50/50 with our soil amendment. You will receive a good mixture of medium to fine product.
